At Burak’s barber shop, as usual, there is a lot of activity – lively and cozy. The residents of the Arab-Kurdish town of Hasankeyf gather here as if trying to collectively escape reality, while every day another piece of their small homeland disappears before their eyes.

By order of the Turkish authorities, their land is set to be flooded as part of a monumental dam construction project.

Rengin, a Kurdish shepherd, and Burak, the local barber, find themselves trapped in a political game where survival depends on obeying strange new rules: unmarried residents lose the right to a house, and farmers are forced to give up their animals. Each new restriction reminds them that their lives will never be their own—they are merely pieces in a system that demands obedience and submission. What remains for them is family pride and a strong sense of dignity.
